Working in a coffee shop

On Thursday, I had to take the car to be fixed. I took my laptop with me so that I could get some work done while I waited for the garage to work out what was wrong with the car.

I recently wrote a blog post for Author Help about working at the library, so naturally, my first thought was to go to there. Unfortunately, the library near the garage is closed on Thursdays, so I went to a Starbucks instead.

The experience has confirmed me in my belief that libraries are a much better place to work. The shop was only half full, but very loud. I’ve been at the library when they have groups of pre-school kids singing songs, and its still not as loud as that coffee shop was. I honestly don’t know how other people manage to get work done in those conditions. I was able to do some work, but nothing that required any concentration.

Obviously some people like working in a coffee shop, and that’s great. But I’d much rather go to the library.
