Review of the NEOCORE E2s Pro Edition
I recently bought a NEOCORE E2s Pro Edition. It’s a 10.1” tablet, plus Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. This post reflects my first impressions.
The tablet itself feels very solid and well built. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was a small paper manual in the box, not just a link to a PDF. The charger has an earth pin that can be slid into the case to make it easier to store, and the USB charging cable is a reasonable length - 75cm.
I was very surprised to find that it has a 3.5mm headphone socket, but I haven’t tried it with headphones yet. The case also feels well made, and feels like it will protect the tablet. It doubles as a stand (in landscape format), which works well. The material of the case feels OK in the hand, and will not slip when it is on my desk.
Fitting an SD card was slightly fiddly, but hopefully I’ll only have to do it once. On the positive side, the manual shows which way up the SD card should be inserted.
The keyboard is very light and slim, ideal for travel. The labels on the keys are a US layout, but I set it up to use a British layout, so a few of them don’t match. The keyboard didn’t have a mains adaptor, and the USB cable for charging is only 25cm long. I find I quickly adapt to the smaller keyboard, and it works well.
The mouse is small, and takes two AAA batteries. It had a USB dongle in the battery compartment, which meant it rattled disconcertingly when I first picked it up. The dongle isn’t needed for the tablet, but is presumably supplied for use with a laptop or desktop that doesn’t have Bluetooth.
The keyboard and mouse each has a small piece of paper with instructions. At first, my Wi-Fi connection kept dropping, but then I realised it was using the 2.4GHz frequency, the same as Bluetooth. Switching to a 5GHz Wi-Fi resolved that.
The battery life seems to be very good, I get the impression it will last for more than a full workday. The installed operating system appears to be stock Android, with Neocore branding and a small, simple, Neocore app installed.
Overall, I’m very pleased with this, especially at the price (£139.95).
